Sleep in Adults with ADHD
Sleep in adults with ADHD can be a complex and challenging problem due to the effects of stimulant medications, impulsivity, and chronic sleep disruption. Sleep difficulties can lead to inattention, poor concentration, aggression, and other mood disturbances, which can worsen symptom severity and impair functioning in everyday life. Adequate sleep is essential to ensure successful treatment outcomes, yet in many cases, traditional approaches have limited success. Therefore, interventions that target specific symptoms associated with ADHD and sleep disturbances have the potential to improve the quality and quantity of sleep in adults with the disorder. By doing so, these interventions may assist in reducing daytime symptoms and improving overall functioning.
