Social Anxiety Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is a psychological condition characterized by extreme fear and self-consciousness in social situations. People affected by this disorder often experience anxiety symptoms such as intense worry, physical symptoms like heart palpitations, and avoidance of social situations. SAD is one of the most common anxiety disorders, affecting over 15 million Americans and is often associated with other forms of mental illness such as depression. Treatment for SAD generally involves cognitive behavioral therapy and medications, both of which can help people manage the symptoms and stress associated with the disorder. Recognizing SAD in yourself or someone close to you is the first step towards finding help and recovery.
