Art Forensics
Art forensics is the scientific study of art works to determine their authenticity. It is a useful tool for art historians, curators, conservators, and law enforcement officers to investigate and identify the authorship of artwork, as well as to reveal any alterations or repairs that have been made over time. By using various scientific analyses, such as infrared imaging, x-ray fluorescence, and carbon-14 dating, art forensics can be used to determine the age, origin, and authenticity of a work of art. Art forensics is a valuable tool in the preservation of cultural heritage and in the investigation of art crimes.
