Criminalistics
Criminalistics is the application of physical and scientific principles and techniques to the investigation of criminal offenses. It includes the examination of physical evidence to identify and compare with known samples and the interpretation of collected evidence for use in criminal proceedings. Criminalistics has the potential to help resolve criminal cases by providing objective scientific evidence to supplement traditional investigation techniques. It can be used to determine how a crime occurred, who committed it, and to identify victims and perpetrators. The techniques used in criminalistics include the analysis of fingerprints, hair, fibers, glass, toolmarks, and other evidence. Criminalistics also relies on forensic laboratory analysis and investigative techniques such as surveillance and interviewing. Criminalistics plays an important role in providing reliable and accurate evidence in criminal investigations and can lead to more effective crime prevention and criminal justice.
