Forensic Botany

Forensic botany is the application of botany to criminal investigations. It often involves the identification of plant material found at crime scenes, such as fibers, fruits, leaves and bark. It is used to help determine the time and location of a crime, as well as provide clues about possible suspects and victims. Forensic botany also can be used to identify illicit drugs, support environmental forensics, as well as support forensic archaeology. As a key component of forensic science, forensic botany is an important tool for criminal investigations and can provide vital clues for solving cases.
