Forensic Limnology

Forensic limnology is the study of aquatic ecosystems in order to obtain evidence for criminal investigations. It applies the principles of limnology, which is a branch of ecology concerned with the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of freshwaters, to the study of a wide range of aquatic ecosystems with the goal of resolving questions related to criminal cases. It is used to identify factors that can help determine the cause and manner of death, including water temperature and chemical compounds, as well as the location, age, and trajectory of a body in water. This can be used to assist in the investigation of homicide, drownings, suicides, and other criminal cases involving aquatic ecosystems. Forensic limnology is an invaluable tool for law enforcement and forensic science practitioners in order to solve complex cases and bring justice to victims.
