Forensic Osteology

Forensic osteology is the study of skeletal anatomy for the purpose of medico-legal investigation of human remains. It is an invaluable tool for the identification of individuals and for the understanding of the post-mortem processes of decomposition, which are essential for establishing an accurate timeline of events. Forensic osteology can provide information on age, gender, ancestry and trauma, as well as provide clues to potential causes and mechanism of death. These findings are used in criminal investigations, as well as in civil cases such as establishing the identity of missing persons and determining the life history of ancient remains. Through forensic osteology, bones can be studied to help provide insight into the past and help provide justice.
