Forensics is the application of science and technology to the field of criminal justice. Forensic scientists employ the latest advances in DNA, trace evidence, toxicology, pathology, computer science, psychology and engineering to obtain answers. In particular, forensic scientists use specialized techniques to examine hair, fiber, soil, documents, firearms, and fingerprint evidence. The data they uncover often leads to the prosecution of criminals in courtrooms. Forensics plays a crucial role in the criminal justice system, helping to protect the innocent and bring criminals to justice.
