Luminol
Luminol is a chemiluminescent compound that produces a blue light when it reacts with an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide. Luminol is an important tool used in forensic science to identify the presence of blood and other bodily fluids at a crime scene. Due to its sensitivity, luminol is commonly used to detect even the smallest trace amounts of blood. In addition to its forensic applications, luminol is used in the medical field to diagnose certain blood disorders and to characterize the pathways involved in cellular respiration. Luminol is also used in industry to detect trace amounts of metals in a variety of products for quality control purposes.
