Perimortem
cesarean section Perimortem cesarean section (PMCS) is a surgical procedure performed during a pregnant woman's cardiac arrest. It is typically done when the mother cannot be resuscitated and her fetus cannot survive the pregnancy. PMCS can save the baby's life, allowing it to be delivered while the mother is still alive, although both may not survive the procedure. PMCS is usually only used as a last resort in cases where the mother's life cannot be saved. In addition to potentially saving the baby's life, PMCS also allows for more accurate medical records in the event of maternal death, providing more information to help diagnose and treat the cause of death. PMCS can also provide closure for grieving families.
