Artemisinin
Artemisinin is a natural compound extracted from plants of the Artemisia species, such as sweet wormwood. This active ingredient has been extensively studied for its potent antimalarial and antitumor activity. Artemisinin's mechanism of action involves the generation of free radicals that selectively target and kill malaria parasites and cancer cells while sparing normal cells. In advanced pharmaceutical science and technology, artemisinin has been studied for its potential use in combination therapies for malaria treatment, as well as for the development of novel antitumor drugs. Due to its low toxicity and high potency, artemisinin shows promise as a viable alternative to traditional chemotherapy for cancer patients. Additionally, research is being conducted to investigate the effect of artemisinin on other diseases including autoimmune disorders, viral infections, and diabetes.
