Population-Based Pharmacokinetic Dosing
Population-Based Pharmacokinetic Dosing (PBPD) is a method of adjusting drug doses to individuals based on their physiologic characteristics and therapeutic requirements. The aim of PBPD is to optimize drug therapy to each patient, improving efficacy and minimizing the risk of toxicity. The dosing adjustment is based on population-based pharmacokinetic (PK) models, which are derived from population data. This approach allows for an improved, targeted pharmacological response for various patients, improving the effectiveness of drugs and reducing the likelihood of adverse events. PBPD also helps to reduce healthcare costs, as it reduces the need for over-dosing or under-dosing to achieve a desired therapeutic outcome. In other words, PBPD is a personalized approach to drug therapy, with the goal of achieving the most beneficial and safe outcome for patients.
