Rare Skin Diseases
Rare skin diseases are conditions which affect the skin and are reported to have a low occurrence rate in the population. They can vary in nature and presentation, ranging from superficial infections to severe skin conditions that require intensive medical management. Rare skin diseases are of significant importance as they can cause altered appearance, pain and disability, and significantly impact the quality of life of those affected. They can also be difficult to diagnose and manage due to their low prevalence and the lack of research and awareness surrounding them. Fortunately, there have been recent advances in diagnosis and treatments, improving the outlook and life expectancy of those affected.
