National Institute on Aging
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is a United States government agency that is dedicated to funding and conducting research on the aging process and age-related diseases. Its ultimate goal is to improve the health and wellness of older Americans through the advancement of science in the field of aging research. NIA carries out a wide range of research activities, including basic and clinical research, epidemiology, and training and education. Its research activities focus on understanding the biological, behavioral, and social aspects of aging; developing new interventions to slow or reverse the aging process; and developing effective treatments for age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and age-related macular degeneration. NIA is also committed to improving healthcare for older adults by promoting evidence-based practices that promote healthy aging and prevent age-related diseases. This includes supporting research on topics such as geriatrics, palliative care, and end-of-life care. To achieve its mission, NIA collaborates with a wide range of organizations, including other government agencies, academic institutions, private industry, and advocacy groups. Together, these partnerships work to advance the field of aging research and to improve the health and well-being of older adults across the country.
