Antioxidants and Immune System
Antioxidants are molecules that help protect the body from damage caused by the oxidation process, a natural biological process that occurs through the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Our immune system is the body’s natural defense against microorganisms, toxins, and other threats, and oxidative stress has been shown to weaken the immune system. By preventing oxidative damage from ROS, antioxidants can help protect the body from disease and illness and boost the overall health of our immune system. They can also help reduce inflammation, which is associated with many chronic diseases. Antioxidants are found in many natural sources such as fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices, as well as in dietary supplements. They are beneficial in helping to protect the body from environmental stressors and improve overall health.
