Osteoma

Osteoma is a benign, slow-growing bone tumor that is most commonly found on the skull, face or upper jaw. It is usually round or oval in shape and may range in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters. It is made of mature bone that has been formed by abnormal growth of the tissue. Osteomas are usually harmless and not life-threatening, however, they can cause problems depending on their size and the location. They can cause pain, tenderness and swelling around their area, as well as pressure on adjacent structures. In severe cases, they may need to be surgically removed to relieve pain or to prevent further complications. The prognosis of an osteoma is generally good and most cases are cured by surgery.
