Polymyositis
Polymyositis is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s own immune system mistakenly attacks the muscle tissue, leading to muscle weakness and pain. It is most common in adults aged 30 to 50, and it is more common in women than men. Polymyositis can range from mild to severe and can affect the proximal muscles as well as the distal muscles. Symptoms may include difficulty lifting objects, climbing stairs, and even swallowing. Treatment usually involves medications to suppress the inflammatory response, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent severe disability and improve the quality of life.
