Panic Disorder
Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder, characterized by recurrent and unexpected panic attacks. Symptoms of a panic attack consist of intense fear or dread, increased heart rate and sweating, shortness of breath, chest pains, and feelings of impending doom. People with panic disorder often go to extraordinary lengths to avoid future attacks, and encounter significant impairment in their daily lives. Treatment typically involves a combination of medication and psychotherapy, and usually has a good outcome. Panic disorder is a serious condition, but with treatment, sufferers can lead normal, fulfilling lives.
