Prisons
Prisons are facilities run by the federal and state governments that detain persons convicted of criminal criminal offenses. Prisons provide a secure environment to keep convicted criminals away from society and allow them to serve their sentences as punishment for their crime. Prisons also provide an opportunity for rehabilitation of offenders while they are in custody. Prisons play an important role in providing justice and public safety by enforcing the criminal laws of society. Prisons help to deter potential criminal behavior by providing an incentive for people to abide by the law. Along with other criminal justice methods such as probation and parole, prisons are an important component of the criminal justice system.
