Altmetrics
Altmetrics are metrics used to measure the impact of scholarly works, such as journal articles and books. These metrics, which include user engagement and the number of social media shares, provide an alternative to traditional citation metrics, such as Impact Factors. Altmetrics help researchers, institutions, and publishers keep track of the performance of their work, as well as provide insights into public engagement with the research and its potential real-world impact. As altmetrics are becoming increasingly important as an indicator of a work’s importance and impact, they are becoming part of the overarching field of research metrics.
