Bioacoustics

Bioacoustics is the study of sound produced by living organisms. It involves the analysis of acoustic properties of animals, including bird songs and whale calls, as well as the effects of sound on living communities of species. Bioacoustic methods can be used to non-invasively monitor species populations and assess the health of ecosystems. Bioacoustics is important for research into evolutionary biology, ecology and animal behavior, and can provide a valuable tool for biodiversity conservation. It is also increasingly being used in applications such as wildlife management and acoustic surveillance.
