Caterpillars

Caterpillars are the larvae of the butterfly and moth species. They are prominent agricultural and garden pests, as they feed on many different plants, damaging or completely consuming their foliage. Caterpillars have both positive and negative effects on ecosystems, as they are important pollinators and provide food for other animals in certain areas. They can also be used in the production of textile fibres, as some species' cocoons provide silk. The caterpillar’s evolutionary adaptation allows it to survive and thrive in many different and changing environments over wide geographic ranges, making them a highly beneficial species.
