Protein Abundance
Proteins are large molecules that play a vital role in the life of all organisms. They are comprised of amino acids and are the structural building blocks of cell membranes, hormones, enzymes, antibodies, and other molecules. Proteins are required for the body to perform many functions, such as regulating metabolism, transporting molecules, and providing cell structure. Protein abundance is a measure of how much of a particular protein is present in a biological sample. This measurement is important for understanding the mechanism of action of a given protein, and the level of protein abundance can be used to determine the role a protein plays in cellular processes, as well as its contribution to any given disease. Additionally, understanding protein abundance can help to identify drug targets and determine whether treatments are working.
