Ataxia

Ataxia is a neurological disorder characterized by the loss of coordination and balance. It affects the ability to control movement, affecting both voluntary and involuntary body movements. Symptoms include difficulty speaking, problems with swallowing, slurred speech, falling, and an inability to perform skilled movements, such as writing and buttoning a shirt. The cause of ataxia can vary, ranging from inherited genetic mutations to damage to the cerebellum due to traumatic brain injury or stroke. Treatment typically includes physical therapy, speech therapy, medications, and lifestyle changes to slow the progression of the disorder. While there is no cure for ataxia, early diagnosis and treatment can help improve quality of life.

Doctors refer to a tumor based on where the tumor cells originated, and whether they are cancerous or not. Brain and spinal cord tumors are different for everyone. They form in different areas and develop from different cell types.
