Medulla Oblongata
The medulla oblongata, also referred to as the medulla, is an important part of the brain located at the base of the brainstem and is essential for basic life functions such as heart rate, respiration, and blood pressure regulation. It also contains important neuronal circles and connections to other parts of the brain like the cerebellum or the pons. These connections are involved in processing sensory information and the coordination of motor activity as well as regulating behavior. In addition, the medulla is responsible for autonomic reflexes controlling the heart, breathing, and other autonomic functions. It is a key component of the central nervous system, and its importance in the overall functioning of the body cannot be overstated.
