Donor Milk
Donor milk is human breast milk that has been donated by a woman who is not the recipient baby's biological mother. It provides sustenance for infants and is considered the ideal source of nutrition for premature or sick infants and those with certain allergies or intolerances. Donor milk has been linked to reduced risk of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and other serious morbidities in the preterm infant and is considered an evidence-based practice for feeding preterm infants. In addition, donor milk may be beneficial for protecting against allergies, promoting postnatal growth and development, and modulating the infant microbiome.
