Tumor Stem Cells
Tumor stem cells, also known as cancer stem cells, are a type of cell that is responsible for driving the growth and development of a tumor. These cells are found in most tumors and are believed to be the “drivers” of the cancer's spread and growth, essentially fueling the cancer. They are thought to be more resistant to chemotherapy and radiation, meaning they may be the cause of tumor recurrences in some cancers. Researchers are working to better understand tumor stem cells, as this knowledge could help in the development of more effective and targeted treatments for various types of cancer.
