Glycoengineering

Glycoengineering is a form of biotechnology used to modify the structure and/or properties of a target molecule. By using enzymes and/or chemical modifications, glycoengineering can modify carbohydrates — molecules composed of carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and oxygen (O) — with specific properties, like reduced antigenicity or improved metabolic stability. This technology is used in areas such as food science, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. For example, glycoengineering can be used to design therapeutic antibodies or modify enzymes for food products. Glycoengineering is a powerful and versatile tool to produce molecules with novel characteristics, allowing for the development of novel products with desirable properties.
