Microbiome
The microbiome is the entire community of microorganisms (mostly bacteria, but also viruses, fungi and archaea) that inhabit the human body. It is an integral part of the human body and plays a significant role in our health, from fighting off infection to regulating the digestive system and more. The microbiome is also responsible for aiding in the production of vitamins, synthesizing hormones, and helping to break down certain nutrients. Recent research suggests that our gut microbiome may even influence our weight, mental health and risk of disease. By understanding how our microbiome works, and how it can be balanced, we can take steps to improve our overall health and wellbeing.
