Cervical Vertebrae

The cervical vertebrae are the seven small vertebrae located at the top of the spine, near the base of the neck. These vertebrae are the smallest of all spinal vertebrae and they form an important part of the cervical spine that helps to support the head and neck, as well as providing flexibility to the neck and allowing us to turn our heads from side to side. The cervical vertebrae are also important in protecting the spinal cord and helping to absorb shock from everyday activities. Injuries to the cervical vertebrae can have serious consequences, such as difficulty in breathing and even paralysis. It is important to protect the cervical vertebrae to keep the neck and spine healthy and safe.
