Mood Disorders
Mood disorders, also known as affective disorders, are a category of mental health conditions that can affect an individual’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. These disorders can range in severity and type, and can be long-term or short-term. Common mood disorders include depression, bipolar disorder, and dysthymia. Mood disorders are significant because they can interfere with an individual’s daily functioning, impairing their ability to perform at work, maintain healthy relationships, and take care of themselves. Treatments such as psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and medications can help to manage the symptoms of a mood disorder, often leading to improved quality of life.
