Psychopharmacology
Psychopharmacology is an interdisciplinary science which studies the effects of drugs and other chemical compounds on behavior, cognition and emotion. It has implications in a variety of settings ranging from medical treatment to recreational activities. Its main goal is to understand how drugs and other compounds interact with the brain and nervous system to produce changes in mental and emotional states. An understanding of psychopharmacology enables clinicians and researchers to develop safe and effective treatments for mental health issues and addiction. It also provides a better understanding of the mechanisms behind recreational drug use. By improving our understanding of the neurobiology of drugs and their effects on behavior, psychopharmacology contributes to the prevention of addiction, abuse and the development of more effective treatments.
