Cytokinesis

Cytokinesis is the process in which a single cell divides into two daughter cells. It is the final step of the cell cycle and is essential for the growth and development of all eukaryotic cells. Cytokinesis occurs through the formation of a cell membrane between the two daughter cells. This process is critical for tissue formation and maintaining cell number in multicellular organisms. In addition, it is a key feature of the evolutionary process, allowing organisms to rapidly adapt to changing environments. It also provides a mechanism to regulate cell size and shape. As such, understanding cytokinesis is important for many areas of cell biology research.
