Synapses

Synapses are specialized junctions between two nerve cells, or between a nerve cell and a muscle cell. They allow the transmission of electrical signals from one neuron to another, allowing for the communication of information in the nervous system. Synapses are a critical component of the nervous system and are involved in nearly all aspects of nervous system function, including motor control, learning, memory, and behavior. In addition, they are key mediators of plasticity, or the ability of the nervous system to adapt to changing conditions.
