Antivirals
Antivirals are substances or drugs used to treat viral infections and diseases such as influenza, HIV, and herpes. They work by preventing the spread of a virus inside the body, by blocking viral replication, or by inhibiting the action of the virus on infected cells. Antivirals can be used to treat existing infections, prevent new infections from occurring, or to reduce the severity of a viral illness. They are important in helping to prevent or reduce the transmission of diseases, and in protecting those who are most vulnerable to illness, such as the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
