Chemoradiation

Chemoradiation is a combination of chemotherapy and radiation therapy used to treat cancer. It is used to reduce the size of the tumor, destroy cancer cells and prevent the cancer from spreading. Chemoradiation is more effective than either chemotherapy or radiation therapy alone and is a preferred treatment strategy for certain types of cancer. It is also used in combination with surgery to decrease the risk of cancer recurrence. Chemoradiation can result in better survival rates and improved quality of life for cancer patients.

Colorectal cancer is cancer that starts in the colon or rectum. The colon and the rectum are parts of the large intestine, which is the lower part of the body's digestive system. During digestion, food moves through the stomach and small intestine into the colon. The colon absorbs water and nutrients from the food and stores waste matter (stool).
