Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer is a type of cancer that affects the colon (the large intestine) and rectum (the last part of the large intestine). It is the third most common type of cancer in the world and the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States, after lung cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer can improve the chances of successful treatment. Common screening tests, such as colonoscopies and stool tests, can help detect colorectal cancer and precancerous growths that can be removed before they become cancerous. Treatment options for colorectal cancer depend on the stage at which the disease is diagnosed, but may include surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy.
