Gastrointestinal Cancer
Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the GI tract, which includes the stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon and rectum), esophagus, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and biliary tract. GI cancers can be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). They are a major cause of death and disability worldwide and can range from highly treatable to very aggressive. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, and fatigue. Treatment options range from surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and other targeted therapies. Early diagnosis is key in improving outcomes for GI cancer patients.
