Genetically Modified Crops

Genetically Modified (GM) crops are plants that have had their DNA altered in a laboratory to introduce traits that are not naturally present in the original organisms. GM crops can be developed to provide beneficial characteristics such as increased yields, resistance to pests, increased nutritional content and improved tolerance to environmental stressors such as drought, salt or cold. GM crops are widely used globally to increase the production of food, feed, fuel and fiber. These crops have helped reduce the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, improved environmental sustainability and increased economic profits for farmers. By using GM crops, farmers can produce more with fewer inputs while reducing the impact on the environment. GM crops are also increasingly being used to produce new drugs and biochemicals to address various health needs.
