Plant Pathology
Plant pathology is the scientific study of diseases causing agents and their effects on plants. Plant diseases can cause significant economic losses, as the cost associated with the treatments and losses due to reduced productivity. Plant pathology research is focused on finding ways to prevent, identify and control plant diseases, and to understand the biology of the agents causing the diseases. Through understanding the biology of the pathogen, new breakthroughs in novel treatments and better detection methods are possible. The research results can be used to develop more integrated and sustainable plant disease management strategies, thus contributing to the sustainable production of food for the global population.
