Plant Respiration
Plant respiration is a biological process in which plants convert energy from glucose molecules into energy-producing molecules (ATP). This process is essential for plants to grow and survive as they need energy for metabolic processes. During respiration, carbon dioxide is released from the plants and oxygen is taken in, which is then released back into the atmosphere. Respiration also helps plants to maintain water balance; the release of CO2 and uptake of oxygen helps to reduce the amount of water lost through the leaves. In addition, plant respiration helps to maintain temperatures in the environment and produces energy which is used for other metabolic processes.
