Tomatoes are a widely popular, nutritious and versatile fruit/vegetable belonging to the nightshade family. With its smooth, red skin, firm texture and juicy inside, tomatoes are a popular ingredient in countless dishes and recipes. Rich in vitamins A, C and E, as well as potassium, dietary fiber and antioxidants, tomatoes are an excellent source of nutrition and have numerous health benefits. Studies have linked tomatoes with improved heart health, reduced risk of prostate cancer and improved bone health. Tomatoes also make an excellent source of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that has been linked to cancer prevention. Tomatoes are a great way to add flavor to almost any meal, and can be eaten raw, cooked, or even in salads.

Colorectal cancer is cancer that starts in the colon or rectum. The colon and the rectum are parts of the large intestine, which is the lower part of the body's digestive system. During digestion, food moves through the stomach and small intestine into the colon. The colon absorbs water and nutrients from the food and stores waste matter (stool).
