Arenaviruses

Arenaviruses are a family of viruses that can cause severe hemorrhagic fever in humans and cause a wide variety of diseases in animals. They are known to be spread by contact with contaminated animal hosts or objects, such as soil, water, and food. They are of particular significance as they can also cause person-to-person transmission. This makes them one of the few viruses that have the potential to cause a global pandemic if it is not contained. Currently, there are no effective vaccines or antiviral agents available to combat Arenaviruses. Therefore, it is important to research the Arenavirus and improve existing preventative measures in order to minimize the risk of a pandemic.
