Food Poisoning
Food poisoning is a common condition caused by eating contaminated food. It is also known as foodborne illness and occurs when food is contaminated with bacteria, viruses or parasites. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and usually last for a few days. Common symptoms of food poisoning include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Treatment usually involves drinking plenty of fluids, resting and taking over the counter medications. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary. Prevention of food poisoning is key and can be done by properly handling and cooking food, avoiding cross-contamination and not consuming foods past their expiry date. Improper handling of food can lead to serious health consequences, therefore it is important to take all safety precautions.
