H5n1

H5N1 is an influenza virus, commonly known as bird flu, that has spread from birds to some humans. It is a highly contagious disease and can cause severe respiratory illness and even death in people. The H5N1 virus is part of a family of influenza viruses that are divided into subtypes based on two proteins on their surface: H and N. H5N1 is one of the more virulent strains, which means it can spread quickly and cause serious infection. It is also of particular concern to public health officials because it can mutate, or change, to become more contagious and more deadly. Currently, there are no known treatments or vaccines available to prevent or treat H5N1 infection. Research is ongoing to learn more about the virus and to develop treatments and vaccines.
