Inoculation

Inoculation is a process of introducing a vaccine, virus, or other microorganism into a person or population to prevent or often to treat a disease. Inoculation is a key element of preventive medicine, as it acts to stimulate the body's own immune system to fight disease. It is most commonly used to protect against infectious diseases, but it also can be used to treat cancer and other conditions. The use of inoculation has enabled humanity to reduce drastically the incidence of many diseases, ultimately saving millions of lives.
