Kala Azar
Kala Azar, also known as visceral leishmaniasis, is an infectious tropical disease caused by a parasitic protozoan. It is transmitted through the bite of a sandfly and is mostly seen in parts of the world with hot and dry climates. Symptoms of Kala Azar include fever, weight loss, fatigue, enlarged spleen and liver, and anaemia. Without treatment, this infection can be fatal. Kala Azar can be treated with medications. These medications can reduce the spread of the disease, but cannot cure it completely, although there are some vaccines in development. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are essential for successful management of Kala Azar. Effective preventive measures such as avoiding sandfly bites, using insect repellents, and wearing long-sleeved clothing can help to reduce the risk of infection. Additionally, adequate housing, improved living conditions, and improved access to health care are also important aspects in controlling the spread of Kala Azar.
