Paramyxoviruses
Paramyxoviruses are a family of viruses that are responsible for some of the most common human respiratory illnesses, such as the common cold, measles, mumps, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). They are also known to cause neurological and gastrointestinal illnesses, such as meningitis and gastroenteritis. Paramyxoviruses are one of the most infectious pathogens, and are especially dangerous among vulnerable populations, such as infants, young children, and the elderly. These viruses can spread rapidly from person to person through respiratory secretions, such as coughing and sneezing, and can cause severe complications. Vaccines are available to protect against some of the more dangerous paramyxoviral infections, and treatments to reduce the severity of the virus are also available.
