Swollen Liver
The liver is the largest organ in the body and performs many vital functions, including filtering toxins from the blood, breaking down fats and producing enzymes. Swollen liver (hepatomegaly) is a condition in which the liver is abnormally enlarged due to an accumulation of fluid and/or inflammation. It can have a variety of causes, including hepatitis, alcohol abuse, mononucleosis, and cancer. Swollen liver is a serious condition and can lead to further complications, such as jaundice and even liver failure. Treatment depends on the underlying cause, but may involve lifestyle modifications, medications, or even surgery. Early diagnosis and treatment is key for a successful outcome.
