Viral Encephalitis
Viral encephalitis is a serious neurological condition caused by an infection of the brain by a virus. It is characterized by a sudden onset of fever, headache, confusion, altered mental status, and coma. The viruses that cause encephalitis can be spread through close contact with an infected person, contaminated food or water, or contact with an animal or insect carrying the virus. Vaccination is the best way to prevent encephalitis. Without prompt diagnosis and treatment, encephalitis can lead to permanent neurological damage, disability, or even death. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential for the best possible outcome. Treatment typically includes antiviral medications, antibiotics, and supportive care.
